I am very competitive in beauty pagent competitions and i've noticed that white girls who are competing dye their hair blonde and wear blue contacts. even asian girls! they also have to wear tons of lighter makeup until they disappear. girls that are mexican has to make sure their accent sounds totally white and without mexican accent. the thing is, everyone copies of the white girls in the makeup room. i also know that black people with darker skin have a slim to nothing chance of winning. think about it. every african american that has won a pagent has been light skinned.( miss america etc..) why is dark features of color such a bad thing to people? The girl who just won miss world was a white blonde hair blue eyed girl also. a black female has never won miss world. u(unless it was prehistoric or something) Guess i'll just start using skin lightner. maybe then i'll win

girl. thats just what the world perceives beauty to be assocaated with because the white man says so. and it seems, i say loosely, the white man rules the world. thats why people need to step up and change the way other countries view us and beauty. in parts of asia, white skin is superior than dark skin even if the girl with dark skin looks better.

Personally, I think the dark features are extremely beautiful; more so than light features. They seem exotic and unique to me, but I am blonde/blue eyed. I also think that it is human nature to be more attracted to the opposite of what you have.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Even when you see dolls on tv, they always seem to show the blonde , blue eyed one first! Maybe I am in the minority, but I think dark skin and green eyes is beautiful. But then again I truly find beauty in alot of people, I think Asian men are HOT! and the Masai people (very dark skinned) of Africa are graceful and beautiful. I have very light skin, brown hair and eyes and I like how I look. Don't change how you look , maybe instead you should form a group to bring attention of this unfair practice to the public's attention.

It seems that everyone is stuck on the cookie cutter perception of beauty. Slim, tall, blonde, large-breasted and blue eyed. Everyone else is considered "exotic" they shouldn't be labelled why? Are native north americans blonde and blue eyed? I don't think so!! Mostly I think that is the ideal is because that is what is shoved down our throats everyday as beautiful, its enough!! It would be nice to see someone else and not just the few models that we see. Perhaps when as a society we stop consuming the products that boast that image then corporate america will get the hint and change the images that we see, maybe then we can teach everyone that everyone has beauty not just a selected few!

That isn't the standard everywhere. Maybe where you live girls strive to look like that, but it's certainly not the case universally.
We judge beauty individually based on our own perceptions and (often) our own race. I generally find people who look somewhat like me (dark hair and eyes, light skin) to be the most attractive. You probably do the same. It's just an innate instinct.
Incidentally, in my high school, the most popular, athletic, and well-liked students were ALL biracial. Every one of them.

First, there have been several dark skinned black women who have won the big pageants. Now, I have a biracial daughter and I hope she would never feel like you do. I believe in giving everyone a fair shot. I was watching Tiara Girls on MTV one day last week and there was a black girl who was competing. When she lost, she attributed that loss to being black when in fact she spoke poorly and didn't sound very intelligent. Her points were moot and she wasn't that talented. That's why she lost, not because she was black.
There is this infatuation with blue eyes/ blonde hair, to a degree. However, the world is changing every day and more people are finding that ethnic women are just as beautiful, if not more, than standard, cookie cutter California Barbie.
I'm telling you to not think that everything is about race. Those women who are dying their hair and getting contacts are insecure and they don't deserve to win anyway.
Be proud of who you are and it will show through and the judges will see your confidence and respect you. Don't go around believing that people are better than you because they're blue eyed and blonde. It'll show through in your personality and your face and you'll come off as bitter and envious. No one likes those traits.
Keep your head up and build up your confidence. Practice speaking and perfect your talents and I assure you victory will be yours. But always remember, some of the most talented people in the world came in second place but they didn't let that steal their sunshine.

I think the truth of the matter is that those features are the rarest among people in general and, thus, the most unique. Also, white has always been associated with pure and clean, and the blonde hair and blue eyes lend themselves to that comparison pretty easily. Overall, caucasian features are generally accepted as the ideal, and blonde hair and blue eyes are very specific to caucasians...thus, they are considered the gold standard of beauty. In my opinion, caucasian women with darker features are more attractive, but there are, of course, many beautiful women with blonde hair and blue eyes.

i ask the same questions. i am dark skin and i sometimes wonder why someone does not come out with a reality show with dark skin women that are really pretty, like me. we really are not looked at too much within our own race. people always act like the darker your skin in the uglier you are. but i totally disagree. again i know i am very pretty. i did not always feel this way but now i know who i am. and i am confident.
white america wants us to think we are less. all models are skinny because white girls are skinny . black don't have blue eyes. don't you see they promote anything that is not normally associated with the black race.
